A few tips
Start with shapes
Almost everything here is circles, ovals and rectangles underneath. Sketch those lightly first, then add the details on top.
Draw from life when you can
A real mug or banana is easier to draw than one you have to remember. Put it in front of you, and look more than you draw.
Keep it small
Small drawings are quicker and more forgiving. Try four on one page.
Stop before you're tired
Two or ten minutes is enough. Stopping while it's still fun is what makes you come back tomorrow.
Questions
and honest answers
What is the easiest thing to draw?
Simple objects made of one or two shapes: a mug, a cloud, a balloon, an apple, a star or a snail. Start with the 2-minute drawings at the top of this page.
What should a beginner draw first?
Things you can look at while you draw, like a cup, a piece of fruit or a houseplant. Drawing from life trains your eye faster than drawing from memory, and simple shapes mean you finish.
What are simple things to draw when bored?
A cloud with a face, a cactus, a slice of pizza, a snail, a rubber duck or a sleeping cat. For funnier ideas, see things to draw when you're bored.
How can I get better at drawing quickly?
Draw something small every day, from life when you can, with a timer. Ten short drawings teach you more than one long one.
